17-Year-Old Charged After East Hastings Vancouver Stabbing Leaves Four Injured

It was early evening in the Downtown Eastside when chaos broke out near East Hastings and Jackson. Within minutes, police and paramedics flooded the street as four people lay bleeding from stab wounds.

By the end of the night, three men and one woman, all between 33 and 60, were in hospital. Police say a 17-year-old suspect was arrested nearby and charged after the East Hastings Vancouver stabbing that shocked residents across the city.

What Happened at East Hastings and Jackson

The violence began just after 6:30 p.m. on October 22 when multiple 911 calls reported a fight near a residential building. Officers arrived within minutes and found several victims suffering from knife injuries.

Investigators believe one person was targeted while three others were innocent bystanders. The suspect was taken into custody only hours later after being spotted in the same neighborhood.

Who Was Involved and What Police Know So Far

Police confirmed the 17-year-old has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault. His name is not being released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Investigators are still working to determine the motive and how the attack unfolded. They say the teen remains in custody as the case continues through the courts.

Another Week, Another Stabbing in Vancouver

This marks the second multi-victim stabbing in Vancouver this month. Earlier in October, three people were injured during an unprovoked attack along the Yaletown seawall.

Although both incidents happened in public spaces, police say there is no known link between the two cases. Still, the pattern of back-to-back stabbings has renewed concern about public safety.

Why the Downtown Eastside Keeps Drawing Attention

The Downtown Eastside is one of the most heavily policed areas in Vancouver. It’s a dense community that has long faced overlapping crises of poverty, addiction, and mental health.

For residents, every violent episode deepens the sense of unease. Some say they’ve grown used to hearing sirens at night but never to the fear that follows.

What Happens Next in the Investigation

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking to witnesses who may have seen the moments leading up to the stabbing. The weapon has not yet been publicly identified.

Under Canadian law, aggravated assault can lead to lengthy prison terms, though youth sentencing rules differ. The suspect’s first court appearance is expected in the coming days.

How Vancouver Residents Are Reacting

Community members describe the latest attack as a wake-up call. Many worry that random violence is becoming part of daily life in parts of the city once considered safe.

Calls for increased patrols and mental-health intervention programs are growing louder. Residents say they want safety restored without further stigmatizing the people who call the Downtown Eastside home.

What This Means for Public Safety

Vancouver’s streak of multi-victim stabbings highlights how fragile the city’s sense of security has become. While police have acted quickly in both cases, residents remain uneasy.

Officials continue to urge witnesses to share any information that could help investigators. Until answers emerge, the community is left balancing vigilance with the hope that this latest violence will not be repeated.
